Beginning in the second semester of the 2019/2020 school year, a select number of Smarter Athletes sessions will offer a two-part certification program for eligible SHSM students at B.C.S.S.
Through these certification sessions, students will participate in hands-on training and learning experiences in specific areas of athlete development. Upon completing required modules, certifications will be provided to students enabling them to take on specific volunteer roles in the B.C.S.S. community.
Two-part certifications being offered this year include:
Injury Management + Wrap & Tape
Completion of this certification will provide interested students with the opportunity to work with teams and clubs in the B.C.S.S. community to provide basic athletic therapy services such as wrapping and taping.
Note: This certification also requires that students have completed their CPR-C + SFA training as per SHSM guidelines.
Strength and Conditioning & Weight Room Supervision
This training and certification will provide interested senior students with the opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of strength and conditioning, program design, and weight room safety. Upon completion, these students will be eligible to work in a volunteer capacity as “in-area supervisors” of weight training facilities in accordance with OPHEA guidelines.
Note: This certification requires that students have completed their CPR-C + SFA training as per SHSM guidelines.
Energy Systems Training + Workout Leadership / Instruction
This certification will provide interested students with the opportunity to lead small group fitness training sessions including spin classes, circuit training, and “boot camp” workouts.
